“For a number of Americans, smartphones serve as an essential connection to the broader online world of information.”
Nearly two-thirds of Americans are now smartphone owners, and for many these devices are a key entry point to the online world, according to the Pew Research Center.
This article goes on to say that, on average, people in lower-income brackets and those who are non-white tend to be more “smartphone dependent” — they rely on their phones for all or most of their Internet access.
