How Two Cities Have Illuminated Their Unified Enrollment Systems for Families

Explaining to families how a unified enrollment system works can be challenging. On the one hand, they need to understand the new system in order to meaningfully participate. However, using too much jargon or getting into too much technical detail can make the process seem more daunting. Below are resources from two cities that used animated videos to explain their systems to families. Don’t forget to create the videos in different languages so that information is accessible to all families in your community!

Camden Enrollment put together this video to advise families on the process of researching and applying to schools. The video breaks the process down into five clear steps. You can find more Camden Enrollment videos here: https://www.camdenenrollment.org/camden-enrollment-updates

To explain the “matching algorithm” used in the Washington, DC system, My School DC designed this video. The video explains how the lottery assigns students to schools. Additional My School DC videos are available here: http://www.myschooldc.org/resources/my-school-dc-videos/
